Our story
Rewild Austin was born out of a shared love for the natural world and a commitment to protecting it amid Austin's rapid urban growth.
Kirby, Nicole, and Colton, who have deep roots in Texas’s outdoor traditions, have witnessed firsthand the transformation of our city.
In response, they founded Rewild Austin with a clear vision: to create a sustainable urban environment where nature can thrive alongside our growing city. Our mission is focused on land conservation, water protection, and enhancing community engagement with nature.
Through our volunteer opportunities, we aim to foster a strong, active community that shares our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Austin.

Nicole Martinez
Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer
Nicole, Kirby’s wife and co-founder of Rewild Austin, plays a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of our organization. Her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors are reflected in her approach to environmental advocacy. Nicole’s hands-on leadership ensures that our programs run smoothly and effectively, all while maintaining the vibrant, adventurous essence that drives our mission forward.
Colton Lusson
Co-Founder & Tailgate Leader
Colton, Kirby’s best friend and fellow co-founder, brings a local’s perspective and a passion for community engagement to Rewild Austin. Growing up in Austin has given Colton a unique appreciation for the area’s natural beauty, which he channels into organizing our popular tailgate events. His commitment to fostering community connections through these gatherings helps us build a strong, engaged network of supporters who share our vision for a wilder Austin.
